One week to go

This is what I've been working on:

 New spandex Athleisure long leg pants for Yoga or Pilates.



I opened my studio for Warwickshire Open Studios - response has been great, lots of visitors and positive feedback on my work.
Having photos taken of my clothes - sorting out a look book and getting my arse into gear for the Fashion Show!


And finally working on my logo.


One week until hand in!

So here I am, at work, writing my first blog (in my lunch break) about my journey on the MA in Textile Design at Birmingham City Uni, due to start September 2016. Here's a quick bio of my life so far. I hail from a small village in South Wales and for as long as I can remember I've loved art, clothes, fashion, colours, design, textiles and patterns. I left school and attended the Carmarthen College of Technology & Art, first doing a BTEC in Graphic Design and then a GNVQ in Textile Design. I was desperate to sample city living so applied for a BA in Fashion & Textile Design at Nottingham Trent Uni (1995-1998) and got in! The course predominantly focused on fabric technology with some design and production, the last year was more business orientated e.g. marketing. All Done!

Well, I'm all done. I now have an MA in Textile Design from Birmingham City University . My final grade was a commendation - one above merit and one below a distinction. The fashion show was on the 13th July, and my husband, brother and sister in law and their youngest Ruben and my best friend Leonie came to it. I had five pieces on the catwalk and I walked it too.  The rehearsals were a bit uncoordinated but then with so many people involved it was a bit like herding cats!  This is me. The last few weeks were a blur, but here are some highlights: The external examiner, Dr Kate Wells, from Derby University came along to make sure our marks are representative of the work produced. She gave me some relevant and inspiring feedback. There is a market for my work I need to go hi-end I need to have a USP of perhaps unique fabrics e.g. bamboo, hemp, organic in production So now its research, research and more research. First week at Uni done, yippee! But first, news on my travels. I've just come back from visiting my sister and her family in the States. They live in Utah, which means flying into Vegas and driving straight out to St George in Utah, about 2 hours away. Below are photos of Kolob Canyon and one of my sister's dogs, Eddie, trying to catch a bubble. As we trekked along I wondered if I could be inspired to design if I lived here, I suppose you adapt to your own surroundings and your surroundings become reflected in your work. I could never live there though - too hot!!!   A rather embarrassing moment happened on my way at the airport. I had a small pair of scissors in my carry on, I told the people by security and I thought I'm ok because the scissors are under 6cm in length and so are allowed. Anyway, my bag was taking a long time to go through the scanner until a lovely lady said to me "you do know you've got a massive pair of scissors in your bag". I want...
