All Done!
Well, I'm all done. I now have an MA in Textile Design from Birmingham City University.
My final grade was a commendation - one above merit and one below a distinction.
The fashion show was on the 13th July, and my husband, brother and sister in law and their youngest Ruben and my best friend Leonie came to it. I had five pieces on the catwalk and I walked it too. The rehearsals were a bit uncoordinated but then with so many people involved it was a bit like herding cats!
This is me.
The last few weeks were a blur, but here are some highlights:
The external examiner, Dr Kate Wells, from Derby University came along to make sure our marks are representative of the work produced. She gave me some relevant and inspiring feedback.
And last but not least - Other Mary

- There is a market for my work
- I need to go hi-end
- I need to have a USP of perhaps unique fabrics e.g. bamboo, hemp, organic in production
So now its research, research and more research.
Below is Renee.
To the left is Mary.
My last tutorial sucked, big time, but my Viva went well.
What would you discuss in a tutorial? The good and bad points with your lecturers? Well this is what I did and I was marked down for it. To say it pi**ed me off would be an understatement. But, one of my fellow students summed it up brilliantly by saying
"When (name) talks, I learnt early on to let it go in one ear and out the other".
I like constructive criticism, but to be told that I shouldn't tell them what I considered to be something that didn't work out well, this is moving the goal posts of what a tutorial is all about.
I got 6/10 for all categories but I was marked on what I'd said and not the work I was showing.
Here's Kerry

The Viva
I talked about my work in front of my static show. I think I held my own and discussed my work with clear answers. I can't remember the questions, but they were something like:
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? (standard question)
What's your best piece?
How will you stay motivated after you finish?
Talk about your work and your plan for the future.
