Half Term

So this week its half term for schools and I've taken the week off from teaching all my fitness classes so I can concentrate on my MA and really make a dent in printing and sewing my designs for the final fashion show. Deadline is 4th July - 5 weeks today! Below are some pictures of some of the prints done and trousers made. I'm in early today to try and fit my trousers, hopefully to me. Last week I started on my MA report which we have to write as part of the course, 2500 words on our MA experience related back to our personal statement. Right, time to go, just got to drink my coffee first!

Third week at Uni done. This week has been about lectures, seminars, sketchbook work and presentations. As a mature student, that has come out of a work environment to attend Uni, I want to continue my work ethic and not get into any bad habits like just turning up to lectures and seminars. So this week, I've been in by 9.30-10 (I know, not early early, but I have home commitments and trains to catch). On Monday I began to research what WGSN think the key trends in fashion and textiles will be for Spring Summer 2018. Mixed with this I began to look back at printed textiles from the UK and US from the 17th and 18th Century. I picked the book because of the front cover, no other reason. In the afternoon we had a lecture by course director Colin Gale regarding The Future of Clothing which covered technology embedded in clothes, amended supply chains, 3D footwear, sustainability and fashion vs clothes.  Then we were set a task of presenting what we think will be the next big thin...

Second week of University and I'm starting to get my bearings and starting to think about what my first project will be. The year is split up into three 14 week blocks with a weeks holiday between each block. The first will take us up to Christmas, then January to Easter and then after that all the way to mid August and hopefully an MA at the end of it all. This week has been a mix of lectures, seminars and tours of the facilities. We've had to write our Programme of Study (or statement of purpose) a brief outline of our aims and objectives for the MA, these can be changed as I progress through the course but it helps to get something down on paper. We briefly discussed our statements and showcased some of our work either by showing portfolios, photos, Instagram feeds, anything we had really that could be passed around to the rest of the group.
