My seminar presentation on Brexit........
Happened last week, Thursday to be precise.
Here's what I did well:
Here's what I did well:
- Didn't fall over on the way to the front of the class
- Cracked a few jokes
- Started the talk off well
- Engaged with the audience - asked them questions
- The powerpoint presentation worked well
Here's what didn't go that brilliantly - and I realised this straight away after:
- Talked too quickly, started of well, dipped down in the middle, but I think I pulled it back at the end
- Had too much text on the screen - should be points and then I elaborate on them
- Didn't make that much eye contact with the audience - well I tried but when I looked up the majority of the audience were on their phones :-)
All in all, I'm glad its over, but part of me would like to do it again only better.
Today, Monday, I went to North Leamington High School to start my teaching experience with Kati Nelson (teacher) and 4 year 12 Textile A-Level students.
I took in my large sketchbook, a quilt I'd sewn and a pair of my side tie knickers. They loved the knickers so much I'm teaching them how to make them next week.
After New Year I'm also doing a lino cut class and a screen print workshop with them too.
I'm going to see how my work pans out but the intention is to do every Monday morning until the February half term and make a decision from then on.
I think this is going to be great experience and also a chance to see if teaching is for me.
I'd always thought I'd like to teach college age and up, but maybe a high school is the best place for me.
In the afternoon I came home and put all my MA work together for hand in tomorrow. I think I've done enough, I think we are all panicking a little because we don't know what to expect or how harshly we will be marked. As long as I pass and get some constructive feedback then that will be a great starting point to build on.
